Some of Warren's Wisdom

Hey Weekenders,

I just wanted to share with you some of my favorite Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger quotes that I heard throughout the presentation. And I didn’t even stay for all of it.

Buffett: “Investment success is buying into the right business at the right price.”

Munger: “I have a rule. The politicians are never so bad that you don’t live to want them back.”

When asked how to become a more savvy investor and not such a lemming, Buffett advised that the questioner read The Intelligent Investor. Buffett said that he read it when he was 19 years old. He wrote a forward to the book and especially promotes chapters 8 and 20.

Munger on nuclear proliferation: “I don’t think that its gonna wipe out the species. I hope that makes you feel better.” (with his usual negative humor)

Buffett: “It is a terrible mistake to sleep walk through life.”

Buffett: “If you can communicate well, you have an enormous advantage.”

Munger: “I have nothing to add to that.” HaHa, kinda have to have been there for that one.

Buffett: “I think you should know the culture of the management and the institution before you buy stock…”

Buffett: “Your best asset is your own self. Th reason people are affective is because people wanna be around you. You pick that up by being generous, humorous…”

Munger advises that we all read Influence and Yes by Robert Cialdini.

See you later,

Warren Buffet frequently mentions how important it is to have good communications skills. My question is: What are the best ways to become a better communicator?

Hey David,
I don’t know if I am really that good of a communicator. But I’ll give some more of Warren’s advice. He said that he used to be terrified and terrible at public speaking. Until he took a class with Dale Carnegie on public speaking. This made him face his fears and improve in a trial by fire situation.
So, I think the lesson is to maybe take a class and beyond that, to just get out there and do it. Whatever type of communication you might want to improve, I would go out online or in real life and find others seeking to improve. Then just give it a shot.

Hope that helps,
