Plans for Berkshire Saturday? How about Dinner in Warren Buffett’s childhood home?

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

Warren Buffett fans have one more opportunity to make this year’s Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend unforgettable.

Girls Inc., a program that inspires girls to be strong, smart and bold, is auctioning off dinner at Warren Buffett’s childhood home.

The dinner features Omaha Steaks and wine and will take place on May 5, following the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting.

Warren Buffett won’t attend the dinner in person, but attendees will receive a video of Mr. Buffett and an autorgraphed picture of him in front of the home.

Get all the details in today’s Omaha World Herald:

Want to see a singing, dancing paperboy named Warren Buffett?

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

The Omaha Press Club has a great show lampooning local politicians and events every spring. This year, Warren Buffett joined in the fun.

He played a newspaper delivery boy and sang “I’m Only a Paperboy,” a play on “It’s Only a Paper Moon.”

His secretary delivered a top 5 list, too, of the things she’ll buy once she’s in a lower tax bracket.

Read all about it (and even see the video) in Warren’s newest paper, the Omaha World Herald:

Warren Buffett’s $50 Billion Decision – Forbes

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

I’m not sure I can remember exactly what I was doing at 25 years old. But I’m certain it was not nearly as cool as what Warren Buffett was doing.

Check out this amazing article from Forbes and their “When I was 25″ series. It’s great insight into how Warren Buffett started Berkshire Hathaway and the decisions that truly shaped his life.

Fidelity’s own Buffett Day this weekend

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

Borsheims is ready to host more than 100 Fidelity staffers this weekend as they meet with Warren Buffett for their own mini-Berkshire Hathaway meeting. Minus the 35,000 other shareholders and giant fun parties.

How did they get so lucky? By outsmarting the questioning system at last year’s Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting. The Wall Street Journal uncovered their strategy a few months ago.

Wall Street Journal: Q: What Does It Take to Get to the Oracle?

So today, Fortune writer Carol Loomis reveals Buffett’s response to those that gamed the system. A private meeting with him – similar to what he does for college students. A question and answer session with Mr. Buffett, a tour of Borsheims and Nebraska Furniture Mart and lunch at one of his favorite restaurants.

Fortune: Fidelity gets its own Buffett Day

We’re thrilled to see them all at Borsheims and hope to show them a good time. We can almost guarantee it – we’re having our Bridal Event this weekend, with free cake, ice cream and champagne. I’m sure the Fidelity folks will love it.

We like to think we do a pretty good job of giving you the inside scoop on Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend… what to do, where to go, behind the scenes info, etc.

In Case You Missed It: Photo Ops with Warren Buffett

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

If you’re just now starting to read up on all-things-Warren in preparation for the Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders’ meeting, you may have missed this great article from about a month ago.

Wall Street Journal: For These Fans, a Day With Warren Offers Wealth of Photo Opportunities

We love seeing all the college students come in during their time with Mr. Buffett. We especially love showing them around Borsheims and telling them all about life as the Oracle’s jewelry store.

Warren Buffett is Alive, Well, Reading a Newspaper

Monday, March 5th, 2012

We love Twitter (you can follow us @borsheimsbrk), but sometimes Twitter can be so, so wrong.

Like yesterday afternoon when Twitter users started to spread the rumor that Warren Buffett had died. Not so. In fact, his daughter told the Omaha World Herald he was sitting in his living room reading the newspaper. Can’t you just picture him sitting there, hearing about his own “death”?

OWH: Warren Buffett Death Rumors False

Warren Buffett’s health is always a topic in Omaha and elsewhere. And by all accounts, he is in great health.

I remember several years ago – in my former life as a news reporter – we got several calls that Mr. Buffett was very sick with cancer. He was not. He had gone to see his doctor who happened to be on the same floor as an oncologist and people made assumptions. Good thing reporters call and verify stories before reporting them. I wish Twitter users had the same methods.

Headlines from the Letter to Shareholders

Saturday, February 25th, 2012

It always amazes me how quickly journalists can work on turning a story. For instance, Warren Buffett’s annual letter to shareholders has been out for no more than 40 minutes and there are already several articles about the report.

I think CNN/Fortune had a leg up. Carol Loomis edits the letter for Mr. Buffett, so she probably had her analysis done ahead of time. It’s a good one:

CNN/Fortune: Buffett Beats S&P for the 39th Year

Wall Street Journal: Berkshire Pegs Buffett Successor

CNBC: Housing in a depression of it’s own, but will come back

Bloomberg: Berkshire Profit Declines 30% on Derivatives

As we excitedly await the release of the annual letter from Warren Buffett, amuse yourself with this great look around his “World Headquarters” here in Omaha. It’s from the CBS show Person to Person and a great glimpse into the Berkshire Hathaway CEO’s life.
