Waiting for you at the airport…

Friday, April 8th, 2011

If you’re flying into Omaha for the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders’ meeting, you’ll probably see these (unless you’re coming via NetJets). These very cool baggage belt ads will keep you entertained during your short wait for luggage.

Our agency, Bozell, gets the credit. And they’ve got an entire blog post about it since this is the first time these ads are being used in Omaha.

We’re excited to have you see the ads, we just hope you don’t have to look at them for too long!

Berkshire Hathaway Weekend Author Reception Moved

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

After the overly-packed author reception last year at one of Omaha’s (and Berkshire Hathaway’s) finest Dairy Queens, the author reception is moving to a new location this year.

The reception features a number of authors who have written books about Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway. You can purchase books, talk with the authors and get your purchases signed. It’s another fun event during the action-packed Berkshire Hathaway shareholders’ weekend.

A Dilly Bar from Berkshire Hathaway's Dairy Queen = delicious!

The new location is at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) in their new College of Business Administration building, Mammel Hall. It’s located at 6708 Pine Street, just south of 67th and Pacific. The author reception will run from 6 to 8pm on Friday, April 29.

Reservations are not required, but bring your annual meeting credentials for a complimentary ice cream. Who doesn’t love ice cream – especially when it’s of the dilly bar variety!

The Visitor’s Guides are out!

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

Or at least the electronic version is ready to go! If you’re coming to this year’s Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders’ meeting, you’ll enjoy checking out this year’s visitor’s guide now.

Assembled by Warren Buffett’s wonderful staff at Berkshire Hathaway headquarters here in Omaha, the guide is a great overview of everything that’s going on during Berkshire Hathaway shareholders’ weekend.

We have the download-friendly pdf right here.

In it, you will find information on hotels, restaurants and activities taking place during the shareholder weekend. The guide also contains the official schedule of events for the weekend, shuttle information and details on shareholder shopping periods.

You can see from the cover of the guide that this year’s theme is Planes, Trains and Automobiles. (Did you know there’s a theme for each year’s Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders’ meeting?) At Borsheims, we try to ensure our decor and memorabilia reflect the theme. The shareholder passes do, too.

We’ll be unveiling our 2011 Berkshire Hathaway memorabilia here soon, but until then, enjoy a little light reading to get you excited for your trip to Omaha!

Investing Lessons from Warren Buffett

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

There were so many articles and blog posts covering Warren Buffett’s letter to shareholders that I’m still getting to some of them a week later!

This one from The Motley Fool took a slightly different approach: They look at 5 investing lessons from Warren Buffett’s annual letter:
The Berkshire Hathaway Letter: 5 Investing Lessons
We love the investment advice, but we also love the details about the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders meeting… especially the news that Warren Buffett will get behind the counter at Borsheims and sell jewelry! More details today in the Omaha World-Herald’s Warren Watch (and succession talk, too!).

As Buffett says: “If you don’t know jewelry, know the jeweler”

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

And our jewelers know jewelry!

When Warren Buffett joins the Borsheims sales staff during Berkshire Hathaway shareholders’ weekend, he’ll be surrounded by experts. Borsheims employs more than a dozen Gemological Insititute of America certified Graduate Gemologists. Two of Borsheims staff members, including President and CEO Susan Jacques, have the most prestigious possible certification in the world – they are Fellows of the Gemmological Association of Great Britian.

All of Borsheims’ expert sales staff start out with an intensive four-week training process. The training includes in-depth information about diamonds, gemstones, pearls, golds, metals and watches. Sales associates spend time in the classroom, shadowing sales associates and meeting with managers. By the time the four week training is complete, they’re well on their way to expert status.

But the training doesn’t end there. Evaluations and training are a constant, ensuring that Borsheims sales associates stay on top of all the latest news in the jewelry industry.

The sales associates are excited to sell beside Warren Buffett on Berkshire Sunday, but more excited for another great Berkshire Hathaway shareholders’ weekend. It’s another time when they can focus on Borsheims’ mission:
“We are priveleged to share in the special moments in our customers’ lives. We will treat this opportunity with the respect and importance it deserves.”

Sales Training for Warren Buffett?

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

In his annual letter to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders, Warren Buffett announced he would be selling jewelry at Borsheims during this year’s Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders weekend. We know he used to sell shoes, but does he know what it takes to sell jewelry? One of our newest sales associates talks about the intense training it takes to become a jewelry pro at Borsheims:

We know Warren Buffett will be a great salesperson, even without the jewelry training. If you want to buy something from Mr. Buffett, he’ll be selling at Borsheims on Sunday, May 1, 2011, during the shareholders only shopping event. You can always buy now, too, at www.borsheims.com.

More Coverage of Warren Buffett’s Letter to Shareholders

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Our local newspaper, the Omaha World-Herald, always has wonderful coverage of all things Warren Buffett. The day after the release of Mr. Buffett’s letter to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders is no exception.

Steve Jordon has been covering Warren Buffett for years and does a weekly column called Warren Watch. They devoted an entire section to the letter, and you can read most of it on their website here.

Another great article comes from the Wall Street Journal. They compiled a list of quips and quotes from the annual letter. View their list here.

At Borsheims, our favorite quip from the letter is easy to pick out! In talking about the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend, Mr. Buffett says “Remember: Anyone who says money can’t buy happiness simply hasn’t learned where to shop.”

We agree! If you need a little happiness before April 30th, visit www.borsheims.com. We’re happy to ship a little happiness your way!

Warren Buffett to sell jewelry at Borsheims

Saturday, February 26th, 2011

Borsheims is adding a new, but familiar face to its expert sales staff – Warren Buffett. While the Berkshire Hathaway Chairman hasn’t completed his gemology training yet, he will still be selling jewelry in the store Sunday afternoon, May 1, during the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders’ Weekend. As Warren says, “If you don’t know jewelry, know your jeweler.”

While Borsheims excellent sales staff spends years becoming experts on all things jewelry, Mr. Buffett will have to brush up on his skills in just a few months. He could take classes on the 4 C’s of diamonds or learn to master the metals like gold and platinum. He may want to delve into diamonds, gemstones and pearls. Or perhaps he will just wing it.

Borsheims President & CEO Susan Jacques said, “We are thrilled and flattered that Warren wants to come and sell at our store. I’m sure he’ll be a record-setting salesman within a few minutes of being on the sales floor!”

Borsheims Fine Jewelry and Gifts has been helping shoppers with their gift-buying needs for more than 100 years. Proud to be a Berkshire Hathaway company, Borsheims is one of the nation’s largest independent jewelry stores with customers in all 50 states and across six continents. For more information about Borsheims, contact Adrienne Fay at (402)391-0400.
