Berkshire Hathaway Shareholder, but not coming to Omaha?

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

We’ve got you covered! Hear from Kim Zuzenak, Borsheims’ e-commerce manager, about how you can still partake in the festivities.

Have your Berkshire Hathaway credentials yet?

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

Did you get your credentials in the mail yet? I haven’t seen any, but talked with a couple this weekend who said they received theirs just a few days ago. And just having the credentials in hand made them so excited that they spent the weekend “pre-shopping” at Borsheims and Nebraska Furniture Mart, picking out what all they’ll buy during the Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders weekend.

How fun!

If you don’t have your credentials yet, don’t worry! Here’s the scoop from Berkshire Hathaway headquarters:
  • - The 2010 Annual Reports were mailed to shareholders of record and beneficial-but-not-of-record shareholders in mid-March.
  • - Included in the mailing was a Proxy Statement
  • - A perforated postcard was attached to the Proxy
  • - Fill out and return the postcard to order your meeting credentials
  • - Shareholders are entitled to a maximum of 4 meeting credentials
  • - The credentials are required for the meeting and other weekend events, as well as to receive special shareholder pricing during the discount period.
So make sure you get those postcards in! We want to see you during the Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders weekend and during the shopping period. Remember, the discount at Borsheims runs from Monday, April 25, to Saturday, May 7. The discount at Nebraska Furniture Mart runs from Tuesday, April 26, to Monday, May 2.

Happy pre-shopping!

The Visitor’s Guides are out!

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

Or at least the electronic version is ready to go! If you’re coming to this year’s Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders’ meeting, you’ll enjoy checking out this year’s visitor’s guide now.

Assembled by Warren Buffett’s wonderful staff at Berkshire Hathaway headquarters here in Omaha, the guide is a great overview of everything that’s going on during Berkshire Hathaway shareholders’ weekend.

We have the download-friendly pdf right here.

In it, you will find information on hotels, restaurants and activities taking place during the shareholder weekend. The guide also contains the official schedule of events for the weekend, shuttle information and details on shareholder shopping periods.

You can see from the cover of the guide that this year’s theme is Planes, Trains and Automobiles. (Did you know there’s a theme for each year’s Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders’ meeting?) At Borsheims, we try to ensure our decor and memorabilia reflect the theme. The shareholder passes do, too.

We’ll be unveiling our 2011 Berkshire Hathaway memorabilia here soon, but until then, enjoy a little light reading to get you excited for your trip to Omaha!

On Top of the Lists

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Every one loves a list, right? Especially a list that puts you at the top of a great category like “most admired,” “wealthiest,” or “most likely to succeed.”

We haven’t actually seen a “most likely to succeed” list since high school, but the other two came out just this week with good news for Berkshire Hathaway companies.

Fortune Magazine listed their 50 most admired companies and Berkshire Hathaway came in third, just behind Apple and Google. We at Borsheims are so proud to be a Berkshire Hathaway company!

You can read the entire Fortune Magazine list here.

And within the last few minutes, Forbes Magazine came out with its list of the world’s wealthiest people. Warren Buffett is listed as the third wealthiest person in the world. We are so proud of this one, not because of his wealth but because Mr. Buffett (and Bill Gates – a Berkshire Hathaway board member) have given so much of their wealth to charity. They would be ranked higher if it weren’t for their significant giving. USA Today had a great article on it here.

You can read the Forbes article here.

Happy reading! And here’s hoping you have our blog at the top of your reading list!

More Coverage of Warren Buffett’s Letter to Shareholders

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Our local newspaper, the Omaha World-Herald, always has wonderful coverage of all things Warren Buffett. The day after the release of Mr. Buffett’s letter to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders is no exception.

Steve Jordon has been covering Warren Buffett for years and does a weekly column called Warren Watch. They devoted an entire section to the letter, and you can read most of it on their website here.

Another great article comes from the Wall Street Journal. They compiled a list of quips and quotes from the annual letter. View their list here.

At Borsheims, our favorite quip from the letter is easy to pick out! In talking about the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend, Mr. Buffett says “Remember: Anyone who says money can’t buy happiness simply hasn’t learned where to shop.”

We agree! If you need a little happiness before April 30th, visit www.borsheims.com. We’re happy to ship a little happiness your way!

Warren Buffett’s Letter to Shareholders Coming Saturday

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Warren Buffett’s annual letter to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders will be released this Saturday morning (February 26). Other websites call the letter eagerly anticipated, vital for business theory, full of zingers and required reading. We agree with all those assessments.

We’ll be reading it the same time you are, and then we’ll post the highlights here.

And if you have questions for Mr. Buffett after reading the letter, we know how you can ask him! No – we don’t have his personal phone number, but Becky Quick of CNBC might! She’s visiting with the Oracle of Omaha next week and wants you to help come up with some questions. See the article from CNBC here.

Omaha World-Herald: Ranks of Buffett Devotees to Swell

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010
The Omaha World-Herald’s Steve Jordon wrote a front-page article Monday to kick off Berkshire Hathaway shareholders week. The focus of the article was on the record-setting crowds expected again this year, and how businesses like Borsheims are preparing to welcome the crowds.
Here’s what Borsheims’ President & CEO Susan Jacques told him:
“It’s always mayhem, but it’s a really fun opportunity to meet fascinating people who come from all around the world and who are thrilled and delighted to be here,” said Susan Jacques, president of Berkshire’s Omaha jewelry giant, Borsheims. “Anytime we can have new folks come to take a look at the activities in the city of Omaha, we love it.”

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Hello Berkshire Weekenders,Jazz Combo: The Band, Westside HS

On Sunday morning of the Berkshire Weekend (May 2nd), we invite you to wind down with us. As always, Borsheims will host a delicious brunch starting at 9am along with a day of shopping and shareholder discounts.

This year we are proud to announce that the brunch will feature entertainment from the Notes of the Round Table jazz band, a student run jazz group from the Westside High School Jazz Program. They are a selective group of student musicians that have worked with notable musicians including: Wynton Marsalis, Eric Mariental, Bela Fleck, Chris Vadala, Allen Vizzutti, Mike Vax and many more. Many of these student musicians have been part of the Nebraska All-State Jazz Band for the past three years.

We have enjoyed the musical stylings of Westside High School Jazz groups in the past, including the band pictured above from 2008

See you soon,
