Reminder: Asking Questions at the Annual Meeting

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011
Just a reminder of how the question and answer session at the Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders’ meeting works. Here is the section straight from Warren Buffett and the folks at Berkshire Hathaway headquarters:
Financial journalists from organizations representing newspapers, magazines and television will participate in the question-and-answer period, asking Charlie and me questions that shareholders have submitted by email. The journalists and their email addresses are: Carol Loomis, of Fortune, who may be emailed at cloomis@fortunemail.com; Becky Quick, of CNBC, at BerkshireQuestions@cnbc.com; and Andrew Ross Sorkin, of the New York Times, at arsorkin@nytimes.com. From the questions submitted, each journalist will choose the dozen or so he or she decides are the most interesting and important. (In your email, let the journalist know if you would like your name mentioned if your question is selected.)
So, if you want to submit a question via email, go right ahead. There will also be 13 microphones set up at the Qwest Center for shareholders to ask questions, but there is always quite a line so be prepared to wait!

Berkshire Hathaway Weekend Author Reception Moved

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

After the overly-packed author reception last year at one of Omaha’s (and Berkshire Hathaway’s) finest Dairy Queens, the author reception is moving to a new location this year.

The reception features a number of authors who have written books about Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway. You can purchase books, talk with the authors and get your purchases signed. It’s another fun event during the action-packed Berkshire Hathaway shareholders’ weekend.

A Dilly Bar from Berkshire Hathaway's Dairy Queen = delicious!

The new location is at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) in their new College of Business Administration building, Mammel Hall. It’s located at 6708 Pine Street, just south of 67th and Pacific. The author reception will run from 6 to 8pm on Friday, April 29.

Reservations are not required, but bring your annual meeting credentials for a complimentary ice cream. Who doesn’t love ice cream – especially when it’s of the dilly bar variety!

The Visitor’s Guides are out!

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

Or at least the electronic version is ready to go! If you’re coming to this year’s Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders’ meeting, you’ll enjoy checking out this year’s visitor’s guide now.

Assembled by Warren Buffett’s wonderful staff at Berkshire Hathaway headquarters here in Omaha, the guide is a great overview of everything that’s going on during Berkshire Hathaway shareholders’ weekend.

We have the download-friendly pdf right here.

In it, you will find information on hotels, restaurants and activities taking place during the shareholder weekend. The guide also contains the official schedule of events for the weekend, shuttle information and details on shareholder shopping periods.

You can see from the cover of the guide that this year’s theme is Planes, Trains and Automobiles. (Did you know there’s a theme for each year’s Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders’ meeting?) At Borsheims, we try to ensure our decor and memorabilia reflect the theme. The shareholder passes do, too.

We’ll be unveiling our 2011 Berkshire Hathaway memorabilia here soon, but until then, enjoy a little light reading to get you excited for your trip to Omaha!

Investing Lessons from Warren Buffett

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

There were so many articles and blog posts covering Warren Buffett’s letter to shareholders that I’m still getting to some of them a week later!

This one from The Motley Fool took a slightly different approach: They look at 5 investing lessons from Warren Buffett’s annual letter:
The Berkshire Hathaway Letter: 5 Investing Lessons
We love the investment advice, but we also love the details about the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders meeting… especially the news that Warren Buffett will get behind the counter at Borsheims and sell jewelry! More details today in the Omaha World-Herald’s Warren Watch (and succession talk, too!).

Judith Leiber: Jeweled Handbags

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

Hello Weekenders,

Judith Leiber handbagsEvery year at Borsheims we welcome many of our jewelry designers and vendors to visit the store during the Berkshire Weekend. That way, as a shareholder, you have the chance to meet and chat with some of the best jewelry designers in the world. Each of these special vendors brings along thousands of exquisite pieces that will be on display exclusively during the Berkshire Shareholder’s Weekend.

I take a lot of photos of these stunning, special pieces and I will be sharing them this year in a series of posts Dazzling Gift Handbaghighlighting different jewelry vendors that have come to the 2010 shareholder’s meeting. In this post, I wanted to share some photos of the amazing Judith Leiber collection of jeweled handbags and pillboxes that we have on display this weekend. You may know Judith Leiber’s work from the Sex and the City movie, which featured a be-jeweled cupcake minaudiere. Judith Leiber pieces are always something special to see at Borsheims, but during the shareholder’s weekend we receive some exceptional pieces.

What is your favorite? The jewel-encrusted tomato, the black cat, the present? See more photos of fabulous handbags in this Judith Leiber photo set.

Hope you’re having fun,

The Borsheims Team

Hello Berkshire Fans,

We just wanted to put up a brief post today highlighting some of the changes coming to the 2010 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders Meeting. Check out this document highlighting some of the changes.

2010 Changes Include:

-Table tennis is back (after a few years of hiatus, table tennis is back for the celebration)

-Shareholders are entitled to a maximum of 2 meeting credentials (change from 4 last year). Update: looks like Warren is allowing 4 credentials per shareholder again this year.

How do shareholders get their credentials?
