So what exactly did Warren Buffett sell at Borsheims?

Sunday, May 1st, 2011
Warren Buffett and Borsheims President & CEO Susan Jacques look over pricing for a piece of jewelry.
We never release sales figures here at Borsheims, but we can tell you a few stories about what Warren Buffett sold here during the Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders’ weekend.

The husbands of a few very lucky women purchased rings for them. One couple was celebrating their 50th anniversary. The other couple was celebrating their 30th anniversary.

Another couple had lost their wedding ring in a hotel on vacation. They told Mr. Buffett their story and he related a story that his late wife, Susan Buffett, had lost a ring in a similar situation many years ago.

A young man who just graduated from college purchased a watch for himself as a graduation gift. Imagine the story he’ll have when he tells people his salesman was Warren Buffett!

And our favorite story, a woman who purchased jewelry here at Borsheims both Friday night and Saturday came back for more when she heard Mr. Buffett was selling. She bought a beautiful Ashoka diamond ring from him. Who says you can’t shop at Borsheims three days in a row? And when you’re getting the Berkshire Hathaway shareholder discount, you’d better take advantage of it!

Bill Gates LOVES Bridge

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

I’m no bridge expert, but I’m pretty sure that when you sit down for three hours to play bridge, you must love the game. That’s exactly what Bill Gates did this afternoon. Even though Warren Buffett spent his usual bridge playing time selling jewelry at Borsheims instead, Mr. Gates sat right down and played several hands of bridge with Berkshire Hathaway shareholders.

Not a bad afternoon, huh? Warren Buffett selling jewelry. Bill Gates playing bridge. And thousands of Berkshire Hathaway shareholders fed, bejeweled, and now headed home happy with purchases in hand.

See you next year, shareholders! We love hosting you at Borsheims!

Warren Buffett: Successful Jewelry Salesman

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

If Warren Buffett ever retires as Chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, we’d be proud to offer him a new job as salesman at Borsheims! In just about one hour this afternoon, Mr. Buffett made several big sales. The shareholders who were able to purchase from Mr. Buffett enjoyed chatting with him and having their photos taken.

We snapped a few pictures ourselves:

We think Mr. Buffett enjoyed his time here, too. Maybe he had so much fun that he’ll want a part-time gig here. We’re always looking for a top-notch salesman like Warren!

Media Reminder: Pool Camera info for Buffett selling at Borsheims

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

When Warren Buffett sells jewelry in Borsheims this afternoon, it will be a packed house. Due to safety and space constraints, we are limiting the number of people who will be near Mr. Buffett while he sells. That will include media.

We have arranged to have both a still and video pool camera to capture images up close for everyone to share.

The still photographer is Nati Harnik of the Associated Press. You can chat with Nati at the event or call the Associated Press to arrange for photos.

Mason Video is our video pool. They will send me a link to an ftp site with a few minutes of b-roll of Warren selling. I will email that link out to everyone on my media list by late afternoon.

If you received a test email from me this week, you will receive the email with the ftp link this afternoon.

If you did not and you would like the video, shoot me an email at tmeuret1@gmail.com.

You will be able to get some video or still photos of Warren Buffett in Borsheims, but it will be from about 30 feet away and with some shareholders in between.

Thanks so much for your cooperation and understanding!

Warren Buffett to sell jewelry at Borsheims TODAY!

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

Do you have your wallets and purses ready, shareholders? Warren Buffett is probably doing some of his pre-sales training right now to prepare for this afternoon at Borsheims.

Warren Buffett has told Berkshire Hathaway shareholders that he’ll be at Borsheims around 1pm to sell to shareholders. I’m sure he would sell you anything, but I am also sure that he’d prefer to sell you something really expensive! He does want to prove he’s a “hot-shot salesman.”

So how can you be one of the lucky few who will get to buy from the big guy himself? Good question.

All we know is that he’ll be in Borsheims sometime around 1pm. So if you’re in the store and actively shopping, there’s a good chance he may show up and be your salesman.

If you’re not at Borsheims today, check back here all day for updates, pictures and video of Warren’s big day on the sales floor!

How to Play Chess, Bridge for Berkshire Hathaway shareholders

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

Each year, Warren Buffett brings in several professional game players for his shareholders during the Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders’ weekend. They’re all at Borsheims during the Sunday brunch and shareholders’ only shopping day. Here’s how you can participate in the fun!

Bridge is set up in the center court of the mall, right outside Borsheims mall entrance. Anyone is welcome to play starting at 11am (but a basic knowledge of bridge is helpful). Bridge champions Sharon Osberg and Bob Hamman will arrive at 1pm. Warren Buffett has sat down and played several hands of bridge in past years, but we do not expect him to play this year. Bill Gates has also played in the past, but he doesn’t ever let us know ahead of time if he’ll be here.

Bridge rules: 4 players must be present to start a game (if someone doesn’t have a party of 4, they may wait to join other solo players); tables are filled on a first come first serve basis. There is a waiting list if the tables are full, but the guest must be present at time of opening to play or their name will be removed from the list; there isn’t a time limit; no substitutes are allowed during game play.

Players also will need to sign up if they wish to play two-time U.S. chess champion Patrick Wolff. He plays six people at once, all while blindfolded! Chess is tucked just to the east of Williams Sonoma in the side corner on the way to Paradise Bakery. Sign up will begin at 11am and sign up will occur in the bridge area. The first 6 players to sign up will get the chance to play Patrick. We take additional names in case any of the first 6 are a no-show. Players must be present at 1pm (a few minutes earlier would be best) when Patrick will show up. A television monitor will be set up for spectators to see the plays. It’s really an amazing thing to watch!

The world-class magician, Norman Beck, is also in center court just outside of Williams Sonoma. He does his tricks for whomever is present. There are a handful of chairs available for people to sit down if they choose.

Remember, there will be a game registration table set-up just inside the bridge area. This is where guests can sign-up to play chess and come to play bridge. Hope to see you there, and good luck against the pro’s!

Did you get a picture of Warren Buffett?

Saturday, April 30th, 2011

I know you did. I swear almost every shareholder at this point is carrying a camera – either a stand-alone camera or one on their cell phone. And every shareholder was trying to snap a picture of Warren Buffett as he walked through the exhibition hall this morning.

It’s a little treacherous in there, with all the shareholders and all the members of the media and no one watching where they’re going because they’re trying to get the best picture. But I didn’t see anyone fall this year! The slow movement of the mob helps!

If you didn’t get a picture, grab one of ours. They’re free! Click on the photos to the right or click here.
